The summer fun is almost over. Sure, we still have a few more weeks to go but in the blink of an eye, it will be back to school. As a parent, you can help your child take some simple measures to start preparing for the school year right now so that you are not overwhelmed later.
Start Setting a More Stable Routine
This doesn't mean you shouldn't be making last minute vacation plans or that you can't randomly decide to go to the beach. However, it does mean you should start setting a more regular bedtime and wake up time. Usually, students stay up later than normal in the summer and they have the opportunity to sleep in if they want. There's nothing wrong with this but it is best if they start to get used to an earlier bedtime before school. This way your child can start to progressively work on getting up earlier. If you don't practice their school routine, they may have a really hard time the first few weeks of school. Keep in mind that this can affect their attitude and performance in class.
Create a Study Space as a Summer Project
You can use this as a fun summer project to do with your child. Designate an area of the house or a part of their room as a ¨study space.¨ Have them choose a desk or a table and a chair for getting homework done and studying. Allow them to choose how they want to decorate or organize it. You can designate a certain budget for them to stock up on cool school supplies. This can help them start out the school year better and more motivated to work. For more tips and information on how to create a study space for your child, check out this post
